Mosquito Fogger or Mist Blower

Why not just drill a small in the muffler on the Massey , dribble in some light oil and drive it around or better yet do it while you are working with it.

I believe that an insecticide mist would be more effective.

I think the municipal "foggers" that produce a thick fog just use oil. As kids, we used to run through the fog produced by the fog trucks, and it didn't smell like insecticide, and didn't kill many of us. As you probably know, insects breathe through tiny pores in the abdomen, and oil mist quickly kills or incapicitates them.

Blue,
I remember playing in the fog when the skeeter sprayer came through myself. I'm aware that a hot-oil fogger would probably be easier to fabricate and probably (from what I've found) cheaper to purchase, but we have public roads running down two sides of our twenty acres here and with oil-based fogs I could easily block visibility for traffic. The fog hangs in the air a pretty good while sometimes and you can't always predict which way the breeze will go. The way things are today I don't need to create a liability issue!
I have looked in that direction though and might wind up going there. Insecticides are available to supplement the oils, and oils are out there that aren't supposed to be as likely to catch fire as diesel or kerosene. Thanks for your thoughts.

What about spraying Permethrin on the vegetation? You would spray that with a conventional sprayer and it has residual control. I was thinking about giving that a shot myself.

I have one of those handheld thermal foggers and I am not totally impressed with it. There seems to be no lasting effects once the fog clears. Sometimes I'll get a window of 3 hours or so but there is no difference the next day. That could be because of the solution it uses, not sure.

I have a Burgess propane fogger that I use around the house in shrubs and trees, etc. about twice a week. I couldn't go near the garden last week because of the mosquitoes, even dripping with OFF. Grass was more than knee high around there and clouds of mosquitoes. I fogged the entire area thoroughly with the Burgess fog late in the evening, using about a quart of the oil. The next day I could pick peas without too many mosquitoes. It didn't get them all, but it made a big difference for about 24 hours.
We've had a 4" rain on the first day of July but none since and I've about got the grass knocked down on about 5 acres with the JD 455. That should help a lot with keeping them at bay, and clipping the rest of the place with the bushhog if it'll ever dry out enough.

Thanks Scot, but the link didn't work. The only "fogger" I could find there were flea foggers. I've got a hand-held propane fogger that does help, but I'm trying to find something that will make a difference on 20 acres...
I've bought a couple of 200gl aluminum spray tanks with a rack (that will carry one tank) that can be easily converted to 3ph hookup and plan to turn it into a broadcast sprayer. I still have to get hoses, pump, valves, nozzles, etc. to get it functioning and maybe in the future add a large blower to the rig to see if I can make a mist blower if this doesn't work fo rme.

I am building a sprayer too. I plan on trying the Permathrin next spring probably. It costs enough... the cheapest I found it for is $50 a gallon in 10% concentration. I haven't found real specific application rate information yet but I think that would do about 3-4 acres. If it does the job though it will be well worth it.

I don't know if it's mixable with malathion but that controls larvee while the permathrin handles the adults. Might be worth checking out.

doesn't the misting or fogging kill any honey bees that are around too?? i'm talking about the oil, i know the insecticide would do a number on the bees..
