You've gotten a bunch of good info here, from many who have been there and done that..
I also found I had to enrich my tool set when i got a tractor. I had the usual 1/2 socket stuff and wrenches.. I ended up getting quite a few tools from discount parts houses. Most of these tools were necescarry.. but only used once... I believe harbor freight has decent prices.. and if you are only gonna use something once.. might as well not pay twice what its worth.. though.. there are some things you want to be good quality.
I carry a pair of pliers w/ wire cutters, some bailing wire, a few extra lynch and hitch pins, and an adjustable wrench in my tractor tool box.. ( the old 8n also has an extra spark plug cable)

Should I get those adjustable wrenchs in Metric or SAE or should I get one of each ??? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I didn't know they made adjustable wrenches in metric sizes.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
The biggest nut I have to remove is about 1.5" (on my toothbar), so I'd get 2 that adjust up to that size but short enough to fit in my toolbox.

After reading this and consuming my second cup of coffee, I only just realized I was being goofed on /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif. Amazing what happens before and after abusing caffiene.... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
When I had a music store, I used to tell customers (the ones with a sense of humor) that I carried "left-handed" guitar strings for southpaws. Said they were reverse-wound, packaged opposite and that they were $1 less than right-handed strings.
Oh also: I bought one of the "174-piece" tool set a while ago and have yet to open it. You can do a surprising amount of maintenance with just the adjustable wrenches.
