Mother of God Pole Barns are Expensive!

One thing to remember when trying to compare prices for pole barns on here is to take into consideration where the poster is located. Costs for building in a location that never sees frost in the ground and never has a snow load is going to be way less than an area that has to build for 3-4' of frost and a 65lb/square foot snow load. Some of the pictures people post of their pole barns on here would collapse during a normal winter around my location.

Amen. I am in the land of lake effect snow and I suspect that my snow load is different than yours, much less than someone in the land of Dixie.

The Amish here build a 30x50, including concrete for $12,000.00, I am considered Mid-South, so yes, not the snow load of up north, but still a huge difference in prices.

Wow, that is quite a price!

I would like to build an equipment shed but the funds just aren't there right now. I ran across this idea. It's something to consider. 2 shipping containers spaced apart to your specs and roof trusses to "join" them to create a nice sheltered area. You also have 2 enclosed spaces (the containers) that can be used for equipment or other storage / shop whatever, that can be locked. I'll probably go this way when I finally get there. The containers are about $2k each and trusses are pretty inexpensive. Going this route, the concrete pad would probably be the biggest expense.

The side walls of a pole barn will cost less than your container cost.
I saw someone try to build on 2 containers like that here, until the county slapped a stop work order on it. They built a regular pole building after that. Must not have been able to get a permit is my guess.

Many years ago, I suggested to a friend of mine, to do just that.

It worked out well for him, he parks his motor home there. The containers are a secure place where he can store his fishing gear...

Wow!! Do they travel? I'm in southern Ohio and I just had the Amish price me a 32x70 with 12' lean to and it was 36k! I know it's 2' wider and 20' longer with a lean to, but triple the price you stated here! I could see maybe double, but not triple. That's a heck of a price.

I agree. The concrete alone up here would cost more than the 12K quote he got for the entire build. I'm jealous too.

My 40 x 40 x 12 structure was completed two weeks ago and and am trying to arrange concrete install so the doors can be installed. I have installed the 200 amp. power service entrance and CB box, ordered the rest of the electrical parts and foresee full use soon :)
