I second the vote on rotella 15 -40 from china mart I use it in the kubota, peterbilt and my ford p-up.... china marts price is a bit steep here now tractor supply has a better deal

Rotella is hard to beat. I have decided to move to the 5W-40 syn version. It is a lot higher but I want something good in the 9 engines that I change at the house which only happen at most twice a year even in the lawn mowers. The 15W-40 is on the thick side at 22 degrees to do snow removable so now I only have to buy/stock on type of oil for gas and diesel. The higher zinc some think it is good of the older big block gas engine valve train.

I've been looking at the John Deere Plus 50 oil. Seems to be high quality oil at a reasonable price. There are different versions from dino to synthetic blend to full synthetic (0w-40).

The synthetic blend even meets Kubota UDT specs.

My JD skid steer uses it for both engine and hydraulic fluid with a 250 hour first oil change and 1000 hour first hydraulic change (that's the dino version). The price varies from $47 to $60 for a 5 gallon pail depending on the dealer. Of course, the lower cost dealer was 30 miles further away

With the synthetic oil, they say you can extend the regular change interval by at least 50% (375 hours, or 12 months).

I want to do more research before starting to use it for everything, but I am considering that approach.

Been using Amsoil synthetic 15-40 diesel/marine for over 25 years now! Since I change it but once a year, cost is not an issue.

For me might be diff then you...What are you looking for? Rotella now is WAY overpriced. It is over $28 (4 qts) at Chinamart, TSC etc....Give me a break....It is a group 3 people!!!!!

I use the oil that does NOT need a block heater at -20F, nice wears, good CS, etc....I used it in the past but that is gone....****, throw in the cheapest diesel rated oil and LC20 and get 3X the better numbers in UOA's.

Looks like I'm the only one using Mobil Delvac 15-40 here. Get the big jug at WalMart for $9.50 I think Rotella is $10.50

My dealer said to use 15-40 and didn't specify any brand. My garage is heated in the winter so cold starts don't come in play.

it is really going to depend on several factors which is good and bad. Most oils are about equal if they are meeting the certification requirements.

Opinions on which oil is better for the price is a whole other arguement.

But if you are in colder climates, or use your tractor in the winter, look for a 5w- rated oil. Warmer climates, 15w- is fine. Pour points do matter in colder weather.

All the oils mention so far are good/great/ok oils. Personally I wouldn't run 15w- rated oils in anyting as they are generally like sludge in the winter time.
