0w40 and 15w40 are both 40 wt. oil. But 0w will flow and move through the engine faster on startup with less bypass then a 15w.

Your welcome to speculate; it's your investment.

Let's just say i want to use pennzoil thats rated for diesel. 10w30 I'm sure that would be ok. I just have 10w30 oil in my tractor now, the same i use in my dakota truck. Just your basic oil.
CC designation was discontinued back in 1961. That is how far out of date certain parts of the manual are.
Look for the newest C rating on the oil, that is for compression ignitions. As long as you meet ambient temps with the oil, you will be fine.

Thanks Ray. Maybe I got my wires crossed on the dates? I have found a good amsoil guy locally, plsn on running 10W30/30 next winter.Your right, I had forgotten we once discussed that here.
The info I found was that "CC" was introduced in 1961, and obsoleted in 1987.
Even that, is still 6 years before my manual was copyrighted (1993).
Now, if the engine specs were written prior to 1987, (possible if the Iseki they used was a not new design), is there the possibility that the absence of 0w oils being spec'd is due to the fact that they did not exist at the time?
I know 5w blends go back to the 1950's, but I don't remember seeing 0w until the 1990's.
The PDF from API seems to indicate CF or CJ-4 is current for our diesel engines.
If you just buy diesel oil, there is no need to worry.
Ray, unless you can show me something different I have not found Rotella approved for VW TDIs and since I have 2 of them one still under warranty. I can not use it as a single oil for all of my diesels. I may change to Rotella when the one is out of warranty though.

All my newer diesels get Mobil1 5W40 Turbo Diesel. My old late 50's dozer gets Shell Rotella 15W40. Never had any problems.
