I did search the forums but the word Extinguisher yielded no results, which I find hard to beleive.

Anyway, it seems like an extinguisher would be a good thing to have on the tractor, so I have two questions:

1. What is the best kind of extinguisher for tractor duty
2. Any good mounting ideas?

Dry chemical, ABC type, around 3 pound… They are not expensive, very handy sized. I have one in all of my vehicles including tractors, several in shop and house. Mount or place them out of your way but still handy in case you need to get it. KennyV

Mounting depends on the machine.

Below the FEL control on a Kubota 3010.
On the ROPs (using band clamps - don't be drilling your ROPS!!) if you have the clearance on a BX2200 or most other machines.

I use a band clamp to mount a standard 3 pound ABC extinguisher to my rops upright support.. then a bunji cored to help 'secure' the extinguisher. I put a piece of masking tape over the nozzle to keep bugs like dirt daubers out.

While we are at it.. a good first aid kit should be somewhere too!

Thats something that never crossed my mind. A small extinguisher on the tractor. I have ABC dry chems all over the house and in the garage but never even considered the tractor, hmmmmmmmmmm.

Going to have to look into that.

Okay, so far on the no-tractor-should-be-without list I have:

1. 3 lb. ABC type extinguisher (ROPS mount, I think...)
2. First Aid kit, ala SoundGuy
3. Rudimentary tool box or bin

This will be good.

I have an extinguisher mount right under the steering wheel. I just checked and it is rated B & C. "A" rating is for paper and wood I believe. See attached photo.

I had a small BC extingiusher lying around so I mounted it to my ROPS. Hopefully I'll never have to use it.

I have my extinguisher mounted in a corner behind the seat on my Kubota 2710 and it sits ready but conveniently out of the way. While not a large extinguisher, it should pack enough punch for what I'd typically need.

I did have a fire in my John Deere 318 quite some time ago (spark from jumping the starter ignited built up grass clippings) and had to make a quick run from the stable to the kitchen to grab an extinguisher. No damage to the tractor or the stable but needless to say, I now have an extinguisher mounted in the stable and all outbuildings.

You plan on doing alot of cooking next to your tractor? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

To those who feel it's necessary to have a fire extinguisher on your tractor ..... do you have one in your car as well?
