Yep it had a tube and was dry rotted.

If you can locate where the air is exiting the wheel, remove the schrader valve and stick your shop vacuum over the valve stem while applying sealant to the leak area. It may draw the sealant in far enough to stop the leak. If the sealant keeps disappearing it is going in.

Just last week was fighting to get the new tire broken down to put a tube in. A old motorcycle repairman showed me how to clamp the tire in a vice just below the rim. Carefully closed the vice freeing the tire from the rim. This saved much beating with a hammer.

I was looking at youtube this afternoon at a site Chopped recommended on using a manual tire changer. I found another post dealing with changing tires with screwdrivers. They guy used a clamping wrench to secure the wheel. I used this idea and the other things and removed my tire from the rim. I placed some 3M Marine Adhesive Sealant around the rim where it is welded together. That is the only area that I could see a leak could originate to go through the center of the rim and not around where the tire seals to the rim. The adhesive sealant has to cure for 24 hours. After that I will attempt to place the tire back on the rim and see how it goes. Also I mixed a 50/50 ratio of liquid detergent and water to make the tire slippery. I had also not mixed it at that high a ratio before. I believe this made a difference also. If this does not work I will be purchasing a manual tire changer.

Well I finally fixed the tire (I think). I did remove the tire from the rim completely to do the repair to the rim. It would have been difficult to propery repair if I did not remove the tire completely. I placed a bead of 3M 5200 fast cure marine sealant adhesive around the rim where it is welded together and let it cure for over 24 hours. Although I could not find the exact location of the leak that is the only place it could have originated and leak through the center of the wheel. I put the tire back on the rim this morning and put air in it using a ratchet strap initially and so far no leaks (knock on wood)! I found this link on youtube to be very helpful: YouTube - Lawn Mower Tire Change Carlisle Tire changed on a lawnmower. I used screwdrivers to take of and put back on the tire per the youtube clip. I used a 50/50 liquid soap to water ratio to make the tire slick for removal and reinstalling. I initially did not have that high a ratio so my liquid was not slick enough. Also on the youtube clip they use a pair of vise grips to help hold the tire in place on the rim for reinstalling the backside of the tire. Also a good tip is the off side of the tire must be in the deep part of the wheel well to get on and off. The youtube clip does a good job of fully demonstrating the tire change. If that did not work this morning I would have purchased a manual tire changer and still might in the future. It is a bit of work to use the screwdrivers.

If the original had tubes the rims may not have been manufactured with sealing in mind at all...wasn't necessary with tubes.
If that is the case I'd seal the entire circumference on the inside where the rim halves join, reads like you did. Probably ought to just do both as the other one may start leaking at any time. Either that or just put tubes in the new tubeless tires;)

I bought my BCS 715 used. The person I bought it from told me he put a tube in the tire after it started leaking although I found that both tires had tubes in them. The other side tire has not leaked at all yet. When/if it does leak I will seal that rim. On the rim I repaired I did run a seal all around the rim where the rim is welded together. There was no sealant on either rim.
