I plan to build the 5 gal. mouse trap but would love to see one, anyone got photos?

I just got Rat Zapper. I bought it because "Controls 10 rats or mice per set of four "AA" batteries" (well that, and the thought of zapping mickey puts a smile on my face :)) Unfortunatly, it's one mouse at a time. We get to our camper once a month. The 5 gal bucket sounds like the trick. Dan

Scott - the ones our guys made were using a 5 gal pail. they put a dowel across the top of the pail. They take a soda can with the top and the bottom cut off of it and thread it onto the dowel. Peanut butter is smeared in a band around the outside of the can in the middle. Make sure the can does not have rough edges and spins easy on the dowel. Then a stick is placed from the ground up to the dowel so the mice can get to the top of the pail. The pail is filled about 6" deep with antifreeze or saturated brine. The mice crawl up the stick, out onto the dowel, onto the can to get the peanut butter, and then take a dump into the bucket when the can rotates.

The antifreeze works better as it doesn't seem to evaporate as fast but the brine is easier to get rid of. As with all traps and poisons you have to have it available all the time so reinfestations are nipped right away.

Around my house I use the bait Blocks. Inside the barn and shop I also place a snap trap, with an enhanced trigger, next to each bait block and in some areas I figure will be runways. The inside bait and traps is only to get those mice that have not visited my outside mouse feeders. I will also be looking for a different type of poison to make sure I don't have any resistant strains to the blocks.

Forgot to add, the band of peanut butter has to be in the middle and narrow enough that the mouse cannot keep a foot on the dowel and get at the peanut butter.

Good Evening Steve,
OK now your makin it difficult for me :( decisions, decisions..... decisions...:) Thanks for another twist on this one, one way or another we will make it work !

Im thinkin it might be against TBN policy to show the results  :)

In any event thanks for another fine suggestion !

They will eat anything. The dead box elder beetles on the floor of the garage are very soon only box elder beetle wings.

Here's another vote for the bucket trap. I was having problems with the darn mice eating the peanut butter off of my traps without tripping them. I bought some glue traps and never caught a single mouse with them. Then my daughter in law told me about using a 5 gal bucket. The first night I caught 3, and caught 4 more in the next few days. Now I keep one of these traps set up in my camper all winter long with antifreeze in it, one in my garage, and one in the basement. It is the best, and cheapest mouse trap I have ever used!

Mornin Steve,
Im just wondering if I would get any more mice if I leave the light on in the utility room ? ;) That way they can find the gang plank to the top of the 5 gal bucket quicker ! :)

I don't think the mice need any light to get around. They seem to be able to get around in places here that have no light, like the inside of containers and vehicles. They will find peanut butter. If light would help it would not have to be any more than a night light.
