Spent a couple of hours clearing our turnaround area this afternoon of more than 18 inches of snow. Had to use the FEL mostly. Got stuck a couple of times when I went too far to the side, over a 4x4 one time. All I had to do was put the bucket down and curl it up to get out.

Fine with turf tires.

This is the most amount of snow ever seen. Never had this much even when we lived in NJ. This is central Va.

Still snowing. Will spent probably another 2 or 3 hours clearing the driveway tomorrow. Practically everything is shut down around here.

I live in New Castle, VA and I have about 20" of the white stuff. I started plowing last night around 10pm with my TC 40 and stopped at midnight. I live a little over a mile off the roadway and most of the distance has an incline. I can definitely say that this storm was at the limits of my tractor. I used the bucket and the rear blade and managed to get stuck three times. Industrial tires just aren't that good when the snow packs. I had a TC 30 with chains and I will soon be ordering a set of chains for my TC 40. I started up a steep incline at the neighbors house and the front end started sliding back down the hill and luckily it stopped before I went over the bank. I spent all day moving snow. I even managed to get my ATV stuck. What a storm.

Well I'm from Vermont, and I was learned to let it stop snowing first. Unfortunately it's 2130, and I've got over 20" on the back porch. And it's still snowing.
I don't want to excavate my ride more than once.
If I had done it after the first 14" I'd still be out there tomorrow a.m.
With this much snow I hope the snow plow gets here before Christmas.
/edit
I just looked up the info from the VDOT :
with 18" of snow they are supposed to clean "Residential streets Up to 6 days after storm ends"
(link to pdf here) http://www.virginiadot.org/about/nova_quick.asp
So if they call it 18" they probably won't get here before the next storm on Christmas!

Now I'm thinking of using my 50" FEL to "plow" my 24" frontage sidewalk

They are saying we got 12 inches of snow but I really think it is fluffy water.:D:D I have never seen snow this heavy I would ride up on top of it. to make a sow ball all you had to do was grab a hand full. I used the FEL and back blade did my 300 foot driveway and the tar and chip road that is about a mile long. It took about 2 hours. Was the snow this heavy/wet for everybody and the temp was about 33 degrees.

It is pretty "dry" here.

Hey Todd C,

I spent many a summer at the old CC camp near you, our friends owned the Majors log cabin in the site. I grew up in Roanoke, spent a lot of time riding motorcycle over there also.

The official count is 21 inches. Think we may have gotten a bit more just west of Charlottesville.
