Man, you plunked my magic twanger! I highly recommend the following:

The Quiet Man
The Shootist
Tom Horn
Silent Running
The Proposition

I just got a Tom Horn DVD for Christmas. Awesome movie. Also got The Wild Bunch. Lots of shooting in that one!

If you like lots of shooting, try the new movie "John Wick" with Keanu Reeves.

So do I...."Hiya Kids, Hiya! Hiya! Smilin' Ed McConnell, Froggie the Gremlin, Midnight the cat, Buster Brown and Tige the dog. Loved the stories...on radio of course.

...and later on TV with Andy Devine. Froggy was reprised here locally, on a TV show in the 60's or so, hosted by "Ghoulardi" who you may know as Ernie Anderson, after he went to the network.

I'd like to see "The Mote in God's Eye" turned into a movie.

I'd like to see "The Mote in God's Eye" turned into a movie.

You recommend that book as a good read then?

I'm always looking for good book and Sci Fi works for me...I'm just finishing up Star Trek Excelsior "Forged In Fire". Hikaru Sulu is the current Commander.

A while back I was reading historic fiction an English author Simon Scarrow. The Eagle series was pretty good.

On the lighter side of shoot em up movies its BBC's "The Paradise" I'm watching right now. :D

While channel surfing the other day I realized they had RE-made 'Total Recall'...IMO the only interesting thing in the first version was the gal with three hooters...! was tempted to watch to see if she made an encore but found some LPGA action on the golf channel...

Not really into Sci-Fi but I did watch the remake of 'The Fly' and thought they did a good job with the original story...

Yes it is a good read.

Pretty much anything written by Jerry Pournelle and Larry Niven is good. They wrote some very good books together. Pournelle was an EARLY adopter of micro computers aka PCs and for years had a column that was awesome in BYTE magazine. BYTE was a mixture of very technical software and hardware articles and Pournelle wrote some very technical stories. This was way back in the 80's! Pournelle is still alive but I do not know what he has done lately since I mostly read history and boat related stuff now a days. Though I have started to reread some of Heinlein's work as well as Ender's Game.

I need to see if H. Beam Pipers stuff is available on Kindle. Looks like many of his books are out there for free or a few dollars on Amazon. Just looking at the list of books is a WOW moment. I forgot about all of those books I enjoyed. I have a bunch of Pipers books but they are 30 year old paper backs and falling apart...

Later,
Dan
