Don't mean to pick a fight but!! Are you saying 45 yards of compost in one truck? A yard of gravel takes the same space as a yard of compost. If you were getting one truckload I would think it was a bit less than 45 yards. more like 45 cubic feet.

Whats to argue? its common and its done all the time - 45 yrds is nothing
You gotta get out more

I am not sure what the fight would be?

A cubic yard is a cubic yard, mulch, gravel or compost.

In our area at least, the mulch trucks are 45 yard (short truck) and 60 Yard (long truck)

They have a three peice walking floor in them to unload.

We usually buy a long of brown, long of black and a short Red.

(I wish we got to move one a day :D )

At work, the contaminated soil is hauled off in about a 30 yard Dump I think it is, and it has this ram on the front that lifts it. It is humoungous, lots of wheels on the ground, and a huge telescoping cylinder.

45 yards is perfect feasible from a semi. If the trailer is 2 yards wide (it's not but it was an even number, 6') 2 yards (6') tall, and 15 yards (45') long then that comes out to 60 yards right there.... the trailer will be wide than 2 yards but may not be 45' long more like 36 is likely....45 yards is doable for sure.:)

Back on topic, I would either rent a bigger loader or get them to hire someone else to move the pile. That is a lot of boring seat time moving material.

Alan was typing his post as I was making mine... scary I was just estimating truck sizes and came up with exact numbers he did in some of my math...

I agree I do need to get out more. I'm used to about 13 yard end dumps. Just had 36 delivered this week. Gravel. 45 yards is a big truck and I guess mulch or whatever it is does not weigh much. We have a little issue around here witht he DOT boys nailing everyone for weight this spring.

Back to my cave.

Those big boys can handle the weight - they dont care if its lead
I get out of their way when they get loaded up - my little 6-7 yrds load ups/drop offs pail in comparision - they get loaded by 6 yrd bucket loaders (usually CAT)

45 cubic yards per truck
compost doesn't weigh as much as stone.
Trust me, 45 cubic yards. (he was overweight a little, not a ton, but a little)

it was 260 yards for the whole job, 6 semi-loads. (4-45, 2-40)

Yeah, I mis-bid it.
I'll make it up on the back end, I'll do ok.
