moving a shed

I just had a 10 X 10 run-in shed delivered. As soon as the guy left, I immediately began to second guess the location I chose for it. Any ideas on how to move it about 10'?

I've moved a 10' X 12' shed by placing round wood fence posts under it, hooking on the tractor and pulling it. You have to keep moving your post forward as you go.

How did you elevate the shed onto the posts?

I have two sheds I plan on moving this summer. First, let me preface my comments by saying I've never actually done it but suspect it should work fine. I plan on jacking up the shed and placing two "rails" under the shed running in the direction of the route. Then placing perhaps 4" pipes or logs lateral to the route I'll be moving the shed and roll the sheds by pushing with the tractor and adjusting the rollers as needed and moving from the back to front as you progress. If the surface they're rolling over is fairly rough, you may need two other rails for the rollers to ride over. Should work in theory. Or hire your local towing service to pull your shed onto their truck bed and transport to its final resting place.

What will you be "pushing with the tractor" with? The FEL?

I just moved an old board and batten 10 x 12 storage shed for my mother today. It was also full of stuff. I just stuck the edge of the loader under each side and put it up on cement blocks, slid 2 4x6's under it, put a chain around each one, hooked them to my bucket and backed up dragging it across the driveway.

I have a shed of similar size that I have moved a couple of times. What I did was place 3 4x4's under the shed facing the direction of travel. In the back I extended them approx. 6" past the back of the shed and nailed a 4x4 to the top of the posts to prevent the shed from slipping. In the front I brought all three together and tied with a chain. Then I just picked up the end with the three point hitch a couple of inches and was gone. The only problem you might have is the grass, as mine was on hard surface. Once you are set up you can move and position pretty quick. If a person wants permanent 4x4's under the shed all you have to do is straighten them out when you get to the final location.

You guys have given me some great ideas. Is PVC pipe another way to get it rollin'?

Yes PVC will work. I dont know what your surface is but if its very solid and fairly smooth it will work well other wise the pipe might distort and give you some trouble. I have used PVC to move 1000# on concrete. Its the easiest way to move a transformers and switch gear inside an electric room /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am thinking that 10' is a pretty big span, worst case you can try it and if it does not work you can get some steel pipe three pieces will work but for pvc I would use 5 to distribute the weight better.

I moved a 10 x 10 shed that had been built on cross ties. I used my B 7500. I had a 3 point carrier on my 3 point hitch. I raised the shed and backed the carrier under it. I then run a load strap around the base and drew it up tight. I moved it about 70 feet. I had plenty of traction by raising the carrier and keeping just enough weight on the front end to steer.
