I need to move some dirt around the farm for building pads and maybe a pond. I have a JD 6210 mfwd, 92 hp. I'm looking for a pan scraper but I'm not sure what size. I've located a 7 yd; the blade is 6 1/2 feet. Could I pull that with my tractor? How about a partial fill? Or is it the cutting width that takes the horsepower? I'm looking for as much education as I can get. Thanks.

I've never used one but box blades and rear blades are similar. A lot depends on soil, but my guess is your tractor is big enough. I've pulled a 7' rear blade and a 5' box blade with a 27hp tractor, and it took a pretty good bite and had traction and power. Box blades can also use teeth, not sure about scrapers. Teeth can really make a big difference in hard soil. I'd say most of the energy is going into the blade edge, doesn't seem like pulling 7yd of soil is that hard.

I pull dirt pans for a living. I use bigger pans and tractors, but I believe you should be able to pull that pan without much trouble. Ballast your tractor heavy, go slow, and you should be able to fill the pan in hard soils. When the ground is soft or broken is when you may have problems.
