My Katahdin Log dealer is doing the construction. I'm coming up with these odd jobs to justify my Kubota. Actually the stone mason gave me a deal for using my own stones. He'll also get his tracked loader in their sometime before end of April. Thomas, side ditches are a good idea, I'll try to add them. Do have to remove more stumps along the way before that. I did the chainsaw bit in the summer and fall before I bought the Bota.

I like to back down hills or slopes when transporting any heavy weight in the FEL. I learned quickly one day that when you go down hill frontwards with weight in the FEL there is a lot less weight on the back wheels which are the only wheels with brakes.

In 4WD the front wheels help in braking the tractor, but backing down gives me better control of the decent. If the hill side is muddy or slippery your brakes may not stop you. Lowering the FEL in reverse can slow you down safer than if you are traveling foward. However,I would rather drive up hill than to back up.

I like using a small trailer for moving stones I can load by hand and then throw a couple of larger one's in the FEL. I used and old car hood for transporting stone for a number of years, the wide surface smoothed the road real well, and the low profile made it easy to roll stones on wilt the FEL or by hand.

Boblegg, I have heard that wood chips will firm up a muddy spot. I have no experience with them though.

Well I sort of used wood chips. How about waste ends of my 5x5 cedar logs. It didn't work, the mud swallowed them. Thought that morning after 10 degree night would of firmed up. Unless winter returns with a hard freeze, I'll be out of luck until drier weather. No snow to plow and driving in deep mud has been unproductive work. Bob
