According to the article, they do pull the logs up a hill then ride it down. This continues till they get it to the shrine where it is then manually lifted into place to form a foundation for more structures. Just goes to show that people power can do what mechanical power can do, just much more people just like building the pyramids. You can take one super crane, operator and rigger to lift 500 tons or 35,000 people and some ropes and rollers with a ramp to do the same thing.

Seen this on TV a few times. It's crazy how fast that logs gets going, and how badly some people get hurt. But that just seems to encourages them!!!
