My outdoor arena has railroad ties to keep the footing from washing away, but as you probably know, the footing builds up along the edges.

I have a chain harrow drag but use just a plain old box blade to level out the ruts from a heavy rain.

I’m paranoid about hurting my tractor, so I’m not sure if I can adjust the 3 point arms to get the job done without putting too much strain on them?

Is there some sort of “planer”, “plower” “grader blade” adapter thingy I can use with my existing box blade to get the edges pulled down faster than doing a gazillion circles around the edges? I really don’t want to spend a fortune on yet another implement.

I welcome diy solutions (that don’t involve a ton of welding) as well.

U should be able to just tilt the box blade lower at the outside end so that it pulls the dirt towards the center of the arena. This may cause a sort of windrow effect, but then you just level out the box blade and make one more pass to level out that row.

It all depends on how far pass your rear tire the BB extends. As said in the posts just tilt the BB alittle so only maybe 12 inches is taking dirt away from the edge. Do you have a FEL on your tractor ? You might be able to scrap away the buildup along the edges with it.

Sorry, FEL?

Never mind... front end loader.. duh. Yes I have one... but that takes even longer unless I can fashion some sort of diagonal blade too it. But commercially made plow attachments for buckets are $$$!

This is EXACTLY what you are looking for on the back of my Rig.

It is exactly the difference between a hand planer and a power planer. Make one pass for every ten you would make with an unpowered attachment.

Harley Rake, or Woods makes one too.

Found some better/closer pictures. Rakes come in smaller and SS sizes too.

A landscape rake wider than your tractor. Angle it to draw the dirt in. They are reasonably cheep.
Bought a nice used 7 footer for $400.00

It's not a cheap solution but my Red Master II arena drag harrow smooths out the ground next to the rail. I have an 8' model so there is 1' outside of the wheels.

FRom experience a 3 bladed drag does a great job.
3 blades as they ride even clipping the bumps and filling in the lows.
Angling the blades forces the highs to migrate sideways to fill lows.
Th front and rear blades are angled one way with the center blade the opposite way.
Easily welded up from scraps of angle stock and towed with 2 chains or cable.
One we made used old tires midway in the chains to act as shock absorbers for when we snagged our drag (happens on primitive road beds ,
(
Now that our well traveled road has been taken over by the city that uses a big grader) we find that their results are no better than our primitive drag grader, and that at mega $$'s more costly.
Time wise both methods are about the same.
