They do this in Boston at times if they can't find the owner. Not sure how this is a Canadian thing.... As I have never heard of landlords towing cars as a policy. I do know that in Montreal the city will move your car a couple of streets over while they are clearing. To my knowledge, there is no charge for this.

Boston Fire is more creative. Say, for example, they come to a fire scene and find a BMW parked directly in front of the nearest hydrant.....

You'd think people would be motivated to get their cars out of the way....//NONE of us have the ability to tow. Even the City is far too complacent with cars parked on the road when a parking ban is in place. Private property? Drive around then, its just part of the job.
As part and parcel of this procedure my leases require the tenants to move the vehicles within 15 minuets of our sounding the siren, and provide for my ability to move the vehicle with out liability. If the non complying tenant figures that they are not going to work with us and fails to move their vehicle I have it towed to an impound. The tenant then has to pay for the tow and storage.
