Re: Mow an acre

about 3.5 hours for whole thing, if you start from outside going in which is typical (duh) you'll have less turns so the first couple acres get done faster unless it is a round field

Re: Mow an acre

Using a 5' hog @ 5 mph... flat, light brush, grassy, no trees= 2 hrs. {or 2 1/2 acres/hr.}

Adjust accordingly for trees, slower speed...

Re: Mow an acre

Thanks Steve and John, I'll call it 3 hours and go from there since he isn't a neighbor or relative. Ha ha

Based on my experience I'd say 3.5 to 4 hours, depending on how good a job you want to do.

Easy at 2 hours. Out here, $35/hour is pretty much the base rate, or, what ever the market will bear mowing by the job. I have people ask to bid by the job, so they know the maximum amount the bill will be. As in your example, I'd tell them $35/hour or $150 for the job. Every time they are willing to pay $150!!!! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

The rates I have been getting in the Atlanta area are $40 comercial-$45 res. His property hasen't been mowed in 2 years but it isn't too bad I might tell him $45 pre hr. or $150 for first cut and $135 for following cuts, what do you think??

Don't forget to throw a little time in the first go-round to look for rocks, etc that could do bad things to your equipment...

Have you got insurance to do this type of work for others?
Brush hogging is probably the most dangerous work you can do with a tractor, and a thrown rock will go a long way and do a lot of damage.
Since you don't know what is in the field, you could be buying yourself a lot of future legal problems.

Yea, I got a pretty good deal on comercial ins. $350,000 coverage little over $300 a year, and I also found out that if you want to do any work through Home Depo (post holes ect.) they require a million in coverage! I always "pre-flight "an area prior to doing any work, don"t want to hurt my baby.
