Mowed fields all day, ended up at emergency clinic

I have had this happen to me just hours after Bush hogging on my tractor here in Texas. Apparently, lots of tree pollen and dust containing spores and fungus accumulates on the vegetation you are mowing, and during mowing, all this becomes airborne. In Texas you can also include chiggers as a problem.

You breath it in, or it gets on your clothes and your skin...creating major alergic response. It is really more prevalent in the spring to early summer time. Also, it gets much worse when using the Zero Turn mower, because your closer to the ground than any tractor.

Wearing dust mask, long sleeved shirt and a scarf around the neck, goggles and leather gloves should help greatly in minimizing this problem.

This. Everything but the goggles (eyeglasses instead) and scarf is my standard attire for mowing.

Plus always a broad brimmed hat. It isn't just for sun. It's also PPE, avoiding gouging my head on the many overhead obstacles in this orchard.

Wish I could use a cab when mowing. (Photo). But this is an orchard.

Actually, I bought a second smaller tractor for this kind of work that fits under the trees better. Still couldn't use a cab on that one either.

The dust mask is essential for either.

Im sort of embarrassed it happened with a cab.
I have never had an allergic reaction to anything in my life. It was a nice day and I also like to open the rear window to check for any noises or warnings from the mower and I must have let the noxious allergens into the cab that way. :confused3:
But that’s just a guess. :2cents:

Yeah it’s a good cab filter.
I could have a filter the size of a mattress, but if I open the window, it doesn’t matter.
