Mower cuts better in reverse ?

/ Mower cuts better in reverse ? #21
idk, my probably similar 54" deck 26-hp sears unit (about 12 years old? DYS 4500) has the deck tilted slightly down in front, and also cuts better going backwards. I know I'm not supposed to, but I'll take it through 18-24" weeds, and it doesn't seem to care much (mind you, I don't get a finish cut then, but the stuff is at least down!).

For me, the difference is most notable near my pond where there's some spiky not-grass (not sure what it's called; it's kinda like a very thin tube which comes up to a point, max'ing out at about 24" tall if allowed, and it's very smooth) grows; going forwards I get maybe 90% of it, but going backwards I get probably 95%... still not 100% the first pass!).

Personally, I suspect something about how the air flows in the deck.
