Was cutting the grass yesterday and noticed an intermittent noise from the mower deck...was hard to clearly hear it at first with the noise from the PT and deck running along with the headset I always wear when mowing...thought maybe I hit something and perhaps bent a blade. Back to the garage...raised the deck..everything appeared normal...blades were ok and had clearance...cleaned the underside of the deack anyways while I had it raised. With the deck on the ground and PT running at 1/4 throttle, hit the PTO and after a few seconds I hear it again. HMMM, decided to remove the deck covers...GLAD I DID! It seems that the bolt holding down the right pulley had come out! It was actually resting in one of the "spokes" of the pulley! Now I know it didn't come from PT that way because I remove the covers once in awhile just to clear out the accumulated grass in there. Replaced the bolt and tighten it down and no noise. Was wondering if anybody else has had this happen...and any suggestions on best way to prevent this from happening again(use a lock washer, lock-tite, etc?)...if that bolt had been loose under there and boucing around I'm guessing I could have had a lot of damage.
