Mowing Mower Deck Underside Coatings

Each fall I power wash the underside of the deck and spray with WD40. In the spring I spray it again. I get no build up and the deck is clean at the end of the season.

If it works for you . . then good for you. However wd40 has a few undesired properties.
It discolors surfaces.
It ages paint rather considerably.
It normally leaves a greasy surface or buildup.

A polymer is a clear tighly bound cell component. It fills in molecular gaps . . Which is why later coats makes it even more efficient.

Are you using regulsr wd40 or is your one of the caried formula versions?

I have a lot of experience with POR-15 and it is a very good product. However, it must be applied properly to a properly prepped surface. I have coated my deck with it and it usually last two seasons. You must apply it to an etched or rough surface. I sandblasted my deck using black diamond slag. The POR-15 was still there the next season when I cleaned my deck, but only in the areas that do not get directly hit by the clippings. This is fine because it was these areas were the grass sticks that needed to be protected.

I have also used POR-15 as a resin with fiberglass mat to coat and build up badly pitted sheet metal with rust pin holes. It makes a very strong layer. It will not stay on a painted surface or a slick bare metal surface. It actually does best over rust. Having used it inside the body panels of several cars, I can say that it does stop rust. It is not UV resistant unless you buy the newer type that specifically says uv resistant. You can paint over it. Just follow the instructions and whatever you do, wear gloves. It does not come off skin until it wears off.
