Mower for a 110TLB

Do you really want to mow 3-4 acres with a 4' mower. You can easily run 6' off the back. I didn't dig enough to see a price. Hydraulic mowers are generally pretty expensive.

If it were me I would look at the long term rather than the initial clearing. There are a bunch of ways to do the clearing but the mowing will go on as long as you live there.

And... what are you gonna do with the mower after the initial clearing? Limited market for resale - whose gonna buy it?

If you went with a 6' rear mount pto rotary cutter - you'd be able to sell it later - if you wanted to upgrade to a larger finish type mower.

All good points. I don't have much experience mowing. A lot of equipment time but this is new to me. The property is a bit of a project and there are lots of opportunities for ongoing projects and trail clearing. I wouldn't expect to finish mow with this unit and would either get a dedicated mower or add a 5-6ft finish mower to the arsenal. The front mount unit is $3K so it is a substantial cost. If I paid someone to come in and cut and clear what I want to do it would be at least $1500. So the way I'm looking at it is I'm half way there and have something for ongoing work. What would be a good finish mower to use behind the JD110?

I still need to locate a 3 pth set up for the unit as well.

Thanks

Drew

Locally, we can rent the Bobcat brush cutter. If you have the quicktach system (or could make one up) on your FEL, that could be an option. Or rent the brush cutter and the Bobcat to do your initial job. Neighbor has the Bobcat Toolcat with the front brush cutter. He couldn't be happier with that unit.

I haven't priced a new, MX-6 lately. But, I'd sure be surprised if you couldn't find one for $2,800 or so.

You don't have the attachment hardware for the 3pt hitch on the 110? It's identical to the hitch system on the 4000 series tractors. You might come across some used components - side links, top link, sway chains, etc.

The 110 would not have any problem with a 7' finish mower. There are a number of good units out there. If you're mowing a relatively flat area and the grass is maintained at a reasonable height - you could run an 8'!
