Mower for keeping down weeds on 15 acres with rocks

ransonjd I feel you pain though, I also bought a flail mower and I think it is probably more forgiving around rocks than a brush hog but it still doesnt like them. I also find that when I am backing up, the roller across the back will pry rocks up and expose them straight to the hammers.

I understand not hitting larger rocks with a bushhog but what about tree roots or tough vines or smaller type trees? I never ran a bushhog before yesterday. While running through a woods with plenty of small dips that allows the hog dig into the stony ground when the rear wheels drop I get worried. I guess I don't understand how forgiving bushhogs are.

Running a 40 HP tractor with 5' very old bushhog with no idea of the brand.

For a comparison, I was told anything my Ford 2N could drive over the Howse 5' brushog would cut.
So far (~10 Yrs) it has been right.
Never had the blades off although I did take an angle grinder to then once.
I mow pasture, woods, swamp, trees, stumps,& rocks.

I have shattered aluminum mower spindle housings hitting baseball sized rocks. Kind of ruins a guys day.
