I put the blade conversion kit on my 48'' bush hog, blades were similar to the ones pictured above. I spent a lot of time chasing lost blades and replacing bolts in the blades ( about every 4 hours of mowing), I was not losing blades due to rocks or hidden obstacles just from use. Found 4'' long double edged blades at the local supply company that mounted with a single carriage head style bolt. Mowed all season last year without losing a single blade or having to replace any bolts. Best of luck with your conversion.

I'm following your modifications with keen interest. I assume you will drill hole(s) in the top of the deck to access the hex in the top of the bolt? I seem to recall you switched to # 8 bolts? You still frequently break them nonetheless? Hope the tabs work. Pics pls.

I am having the metal cut here at work (we now have a full metal shop going, with plasma cutter and all. And we also now have a very cool laser cutter. Problem is getting time in it even if I am the boss.

And I have not found a source yet for those bolts. Any ideas anyone?

Try these folks. Very knowledgeable any time I have been there.

I'll be interested to hear what you find in the way of bolts and or spacers. The rough mower blades need to swing freely so the shoulder on the threaded bolt is a factor along with the spacer and washer to allow the right amount of wiggle but not too much. coming in from the top sounds innovative but i'm thinking with #8 bolts you might not need to. my stop bolts long ago broke off and i see no need to replace. may try four blades after we finish kncking down the rough stuff
