Boy.. I had a workout this weekend.

I just got done assembling my 10' Howse 3pt mower, and getting it hitched up to the tractor. Let me say that attatching a 10' mower is no easy task.. especially when parked on uneven sod.. wher ethe mower was set off the flatbed truck..

I had to assemble the 3pt just to get it down to my barn so I could get everything else done...

Made one pass with the mower last night just to see the blades spin, and knock some black tops off the gras right near the barn.

( was great! )

If it isn't raining when I get home.. I'll get some pics.

I really like the 3pt mower.. and am glad I got it over the 10' drag... much easier to maneuver.. and back up!

But everything on it is heavy... Even the metal shield over the 3 gear boxes was heavy... I had to remove that just to get the pto shaft onto the center gearbox.

Getting the 3p leveled was also a 'process' of trial an error.

I see the manual shows that the gearbox can be filled with 00 grease, or 85/140 oil. I stuck a feeler in the boxes, and it is clear they have a bluish grease in them.. and that grease has a oil-liquidy bluish .. uh.. residue on it.. though it does not appear to be filled up all the way to the small 'check' plug in the side of the box.

I may squirt a bit of 140wt in there to bring the level up to the check plug level... Seems like the grease would fling away from the gears? ( I always though howse shipped those boxes dry? or is that only on the smaller units.. like 5-6'? )

And boy.. I was going around greasing the rear spindles and wheel hubs.... that think absorbed a tube of grease before any appeared at the 'squeeze-out' sites.. musta been bone dry..

Soundguy,

Sounds like when I bought my KK mower and tiller... The drivelines didn't need any trimming to fit my Ford, but the gear boxes and grease zerks took alot of lube... TSC manager gave me 5 gallons of gear oil when he brought the implements out... but didn't bring any grease! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

10' mower... what next? Sounds like you could carry my cub and 5' mower in your tool box. Those of us on a fixed budget will remain on the sidelines. Bet the grass can't grow fast enough !! Enjoy.

Oh it grows great.. this now lets me just blow a morning to mow it, instead of all day.

Believe it or not I almost traded my new 10' 3pt mower in for a used 15' batwing at the local JD dealership. Someone beat me to it though. It would have been an even trade.. the batwing was used but still serviceable..

I still mow with my cub and it's 44"? belly mower sometimes.. I mow some right of way land with it where it is a tad hard to turn around on my NAA.. and the 7610 would have to drive straight in and then back out... now that would be a site..

I'm not overflowing with cash or anything.. I just traded my paid for Nh 1920 on it.. which was a sizeabl;e chunk.. and the rest is on payments to the bank..... in fact.. no out of pocket expense for the tractor.. trade and load covered it.. And the mower pretty much tapped my funds.. that's why I only bought a 10' and not a 12' or 15' as it was out of pocket.. and my wallet went dry at 10'..
