The BEST way is to follow the instructions in the owner's pamphlet that should have come with the mower/shaft combination. If you don't have the paperwork, perhaps you could get it from Howse, or perhaps from their website?

Others have home grown methods that might work for them, but I'd prefer to adjust with manufacturer's instructions to manufacturer's specifications. If you can't get the proper instructions from Howse - AND if your clutch has 8 tensioning bolts - the instructions that came with mine could possibly apply to yours.

Hello Gregg,
Thanks for the reply. Howse does not have the information on their website. If you could upload your information that would be much appreciated. It is the eight bolt time of clutch.

Best Regards,
Steve

Ok. But first measure the overall length of the springs to help make sure your clutch and mine have similar adjustment parameters. When you're comfortable my numbers will work with your clutch, take all 8 nuts/springs/bolts off and take separate the clutch discs. Do any cleaning that looks necessary, and re-assemble everything so that the nuts are on hand tight.

Then confirm how many horsepower your tractor has at the PTO. Consult the chart for that horsepower setting, tighten the 8 bolts to the specified length. I've only uploaded the chart, since the whole pamphlet would have exceeded the allowable file size.

Grease the U-joint on the tractor end, and it should be ready to put back to work.

Do email howse customer service if you bought that mower new and it dind't have a manual... most likely they will send you one.

Those economy brands may surprise you with customer service if you give them a chance.

I bought my howse 10' mower new.. and it had no manual. I got one in a week and a half by mail.. free.. even though they sell them.. I just wrote them a nice email, and asked a few safety related questions. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

On my KK.. it had a manual, but was missing a small cir-clip that holds the pto shaft onto the gear box after the shear bolt shears. I emailed KK about this missing (safety) part and asked about purchasing it...and they fell all overthemselves to get me one. Asked me to please -not- mow with it till I recieved the part and sent it .. a 50 cent part.. free.. next day air.. to me

While adjusting a slip clutch, Hook it to the tractor, and make it slip. (Loosen springs and/or lock mower blades/center spindle in place.. Apply S.L.O.W. PTO power.)

What prevents most slip clutches from working when they're needed is rust. They've even been known to "freeze" to the point they won't even budge when you hit something.

Most slip clutches are manufactured by one of 2 makers. They generally will include a manual suppliment page to describe proper maint. and upkeep of their clutch. (DOn't have my giant stack of owners manuals here at work or I'd look up the names of those 2 companies)

Pre-loading that clutch is done by static "stack heighth" of the springs as mentioned.

Hello again,
Thanks for more info. The maker of this clutch is Weasler. I don't even see the clutch on their website. I have written them an email and asked how these are adjusted. Will see here if they answer.

Best regards,
Steve
