anyone have the bobcat mower for their toolcat? i am thinking about picking one up but not sure...

theoshin, i'm under the impression the brushcat is not suitable for the machine.
what model toolcat are you runnng and how do you find the thing in real world applications. it sure is one heavy bit of kit and about $7500 over here iirc.
my impression of the finish mower is that a dedicated bit of gear like a great dane would be better.

I have had the 72" finish mower for three mowing seasons, just starting my forth. I think it does a good job, though with the TC it is hard or impossible to get into tight spaces.
If the lawn is soft, when reversing direction I have problems with one of the caster wheels sticking sideways and peeling the lawn away. Even regular greasing of the wheels and casters has not prevented it, but this my only real complaint about the mower deck.
I have over 1600' of fence that I mow, and I use the crab steering to get the mower close to the fence w/o hitting with the TC. Especially helpful on inside curves, but handy for straight runs too. I can mow under the fence rails this way, I don't know of any other machine that could compare. Saves me from having to run the edger under 1600' feet of fence also!
Just now took the deck apart for a spring tuneup, ordered new belts as the Bobcat dealer did not have them in stock. I was surprised by the price $38 each, two required, guess I could run around town trying to match them up and save a couple $, but with gas at $3.70 a gallon, probably not worth it.

I've used the 72" finish mower for the past 3 years and also "crab steer" to cut under fences and keep the rear from swinging into the fence in turns. Good cut, no problems yet except on rougher terrain occasionally the safety valve will cut off the blades.

One of those regretful 72" mower owners here. I actually ordered the 90 inch then got to thinking that maybe I would get into tight spots where the 90 wouldn't fit. In actuality, I've found that long before you get to a narrow enough area, you want to use a garden tractor for the maneuverability, so the mower deck width has never been the issue.
Being further away from trees and obstacles is one benefit with the 90 inch, but I also think about the roughly 25% quicker that I could get the grass mowed, which in my case amounts to hours because of the rough fields I have to deal with. And the cost difference is negligible, about 10%.

will the mower cut 3' wet heavy kikyu grass? not sure if you get that grass over there - it puts out runners and grows like crazy.
the usual strategy here is slash once then mow but my current tractor/slasher combination is a lot slow - 1st gear 1st range sort of stuff, i couldn't walk that slow.

I'm following up on mouse's question... what degree of powerful cutting performance are you getting from the Bobcat 72" and 90" mowers? I have a lot of traditional "yard grass" and my 72" Bobcat near finish mower goes through it like butter-- even skipping mowing a week and coming back to pretty tall grass, the Bobcat mower cuts this "ornamental lawn grass" with no problem.
But I reclaimed a neglected field a few years ago with my Brushcat, then have been mowing it weekly with the Bobcat near finish mower. This field grass is sturdier and tougher than the other more decorative yard grass and it really slows down the mower. I mowed today with freshly sharpened blades, and I had just cleaned the radiator screen and flip up radiator-- anyway you have to slow down cutting this four to five inch grass... or the mower belt starts squealing or the entire machine bogs down if you're on a hill.
I've checked the belt tension and it is to spec. The quality of the cut is acceptable but I'm just not that impressed with the power delivered to get thru this grass. Wondering if something else might be wrong or what to expect? I could mow this single field every week with the Brushcat, but it would take considerably longer since it's so heavy and only 60" wide.
