I curently use a 5-foot rotary deck mower in my orchard and pasture. I have noticed how nicely groomed some orchards look when mowed with a flail mower. Is it worth the change?

Depends on how nice you like your orchard to look. A deck mower will give you a lot of mowing with a lot les maintenence. I have seen some flail units that they take right over the trimmings from the trees. I was amazed at the way they reduce the wood. After taking a closer look I realized that these are not the typical gras mower. They were very heanyily built and had hammers on the flail, serious hammers. Pretty heavy price tag too.
