I bought the
Toro TimeMaster from Home Depot. It was on sale for $100-off, and I had a 10%-off coupon. Brought it down to $899.10. The local Toro dealer wanted $1100 (full retail).
Mowed all 4 lawns myself in about 3hrs, including travel time (not far). Didn't do any string trimming.
Last time my wife and I mowed & trimmed them it took "all day" with the Honda HRX217
5HYA. Partly because we spent some time cleaning things up to make it easier to mow next time, but also because Honda struggled when mulching thick, wet, sticky weeds. I see for 2019 (HRX217
6) they're using a larger motor. We also had some issues with the trimmer line that sucked up some time.
At this altitude we lose roughly 20% engine output.
People complain about the minuscule gas tank on the TimeMaster. Now I see why! I had to fill it 4 times. I think the Exmark Commercial version has a 1-gallon tank.
The TimeMaster in mulching mode also struggled with the weeds. I wound up stopping twice to flush the gunk out from under the deck and then I pressure-washed a LOT of gunk from under the deck when I was done.
I might try switching to side-discharge in the really weedy areas.
I didn't expect to like the "Personal Pace" system so much. It's pretty awesome!
I didn't feel like 30" mower beat me up any worse than the 21" Honda. (~132lbs -vs- ~100lbs).
I didn't find many areas I couldn't get to with the 30" that I could get to with the 21", but there are some. Part of it is just that the yards are set up for the 21".
Home Depot has a 30-day return policy on these. I'm kind of on the fence. Wish I could have rented first.
My back hurts. My neck hurts. It's got me thinking maybe I do need to check out a small riding / zero-turn / sulky setup. Again, I wish I could rent something like that.
I could stick a 60" MMM or brush-hog on the
BX2370, but I don't think that would buy me much.
