Mowing Cost

Closing on 7 acres next Tuesday and it needs mowing asap. We are buying two lots in a small subdivision so it has to stay kept up. The realtor who lives on the street said I don't have to keep it mowed every week but can't let it get out of hand. We don't plan to build for about a year. Anyway wanting to know what would be a reasonable cost to have someone mow this (probably about 6 acres to mow), say once a month? If it's too much I'll just go ahead and buy me a JD2305 or Kubota B2320 and take it over there do it myself. Hope the cost doesn't require me to do that though.

You'll need to describe the location, topography, and the vegetation. Time is money. In my area, a normal tractor rate is 1$ per HP per hour. I can mow 7 acres of dense vegetation on flat ground in 8-10 hours with 30 HP so I would bid your job at 250-300$ depending on travel time to the site and ease of access.

After the first mow it is possible to tune the price down to actual conditions.

Land is flat, grass was cut about a month ago so its only about knee high, not very thick.

It's in the restrictions for the property. Not a bad idea but probably not the way on want to start relationships with neighbors where we will probably live for quite some time.

I agree, it's the relationship with the neighbors you're cultivating. Not the one with the HOA.

I just got $50/hr for my 20hp doing some bushhogging. Most was about knee high, some of it was sapplings over the tractor though. Did 4 acres in just under 4 hours.

If it were me, I'd buy whatever is going to be the long term solution and do it myself. The place stays nicer, you save a buck, and probably have a relationship with neighbors before you move in.

Of course, that's an insured, registered, USDOT'd, workman's comp paying real company.

A neighbor would probably do it for less but it's your tail in a sling if he gets hurt/breaks something, whatever. (him too for that matter)
