Mowing in reverse with SCUT and MMM

While at the JD dealer yesterday I was told that the mid mount mower pto would stop if I go in reverse (1025R) . There is a button to override this. I was also told it was required to have this function by law and that all SCUT would stop the pto. It was stated as a safety feature.

Questions:
1 Does kubota mmm pto stop if you go in reverse (bx2680)?
2. Does this become a nuisance while mowing, do you have to push the button every time you back up then start forward?
3. after backing up ( to turn around etc) do you have to throttle down to re-engage pto before going forward?

Mine doesn't do that.

Both riding mowers do, but the Craftsman has a factory override.

Not sure why that would be. The Massey GC series will power the mid-mount PTO in forward and reverse motion AND both the mid-mount and rear PTO are capable of being engaged at the same time. The PTO only rotates one way right?

Funny part of this my JD riding mower cuts better in reverse than forward........Previous owner actually by passed override so it is full time active.... 12 years now and not a issue... Don't see why it would be a problem with ANY mower if operator is knowledgeable of machine...

BX2370, MMM only shuts down if butt leaves the seat.

Answers:
1. I don't know about your particular model, but in general, new lawnmowers are now required by law to shutdown in reverse.
2. Yes it is a nuisance but it soon becomes a habit.
3. If you forget to use the by-pass switch, you should idle down to reengage the pto. You don't have to, but it will prevent accumulated damage to the system.

While mowing does the button have to be pushed every time you hit the reverse pedal or can you activate the button once and it stays active until you get off the seat?

You have to push the button everytime, before you go into reverse.

I have a JD 2025r, similar to a JD 1025r, and yes bigtiller is correct, you have to hit it every time. It Is the same button you use to turn the pto on, it’s a rocker switch. The mower keeps working but if you forget to hit the switch the tractor will eventually die. The Kubota BX I had did not require this but that 14 years ago, I don’t know about the new Kubota. There is a way to bypass this with some wiring.

I really like my JD2025r but hate this feature. I forget sometimes but usually remember before I kill the tractor. I’m not sure how having to look forward at the dash to hit a button makes it safer, you should be looking backwards. On the larger 2 series, like a 2032r you can disable the function by pressing the buttons on the LCD display, the smaller tractors don’t have these buttons.
