Muhammad,

Is it possible and/or permissable to post small video clips on TBN?

Being spoiled with DSL, a digital video camera and several computers, it would be oh so nice to bring a video dimension to the TBN experience.

Of course, I realize that incurs the cost of disk space and larger bandwith requirements... Not to mention the dail-up uses wouldn't see the benefit unless they were very patient. I'm going to post another message in a minute asking how many TBN users are dial-up or high-speed (DSL, Cable, ISDN, Satellite, T1, T3 etc). Not sure if you have this statistic already, but it might help in determining the efficacy of the proposition.

As I'm sure you know, the benefits to the high-speed Internet user community would be enormous. Imagine being able to have others troubleshoot a problem by listening to the sound of an engine or transmission or seeing a problem in full motion video???

Well, enough of my dreaming... Can we do this??? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif How many more banner ads do we have to sell to pay for the extra disk and bandwidth? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

We'd probably need to double our server capacity and bandwidth to allow regular video uploads/downloads, to prevent that from slowing everything down. Not many people have the capability to take, capture, and prepare for web (compress) a video file...

So I don't think it's something we could offer for free... maybe as a paid service if there were enough demand for it.

Depending on the price, I would be willing to pay to post/view video. Since I work for the second largest media company in the world, I guess I'm spoiled when it comes to high speed connections, Internet audio/video etc. Once technology becomes a norm for someone, I guess they really notice the absence of it if it's not being available.

How much do you you think you would have to charge for a given user base to make a go of it? Or turn that question on its head - How large a user base would you need to keep the price within reason? Observing of course that the larger the user base the greater the cost. At what point would you reach that oh so important economies of scale?

We would have to do some numbers on it, but I doubt we'd offer a service that simply lets you upload and view videos... maybe add that to a few other features.

Muhammad,

More features /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif - one can never have too many features. Too bad economics has to be the determinant of what, why, when, where and how something is done /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif. Sometimes it's easy to forget that despite even the best intentions, nothing is for free.

I had the same notions /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I posted the videos on my personal web space so I wouldn't be a space or bandwidth hog here at TBN, then just linked to them in my TBN posts. While they aren't streaming video, just windows media format files, they are fine for examples and such. And I did them with 28.8 dial up. I have too much time on my hands /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif.

MossRoad,

You've done a great job with that site! I never had any interest in the PT until I saw your video clips. What a capable and easy to use machine!

I read through your entire website and I think I'm going to do something similar when my JD 4310 arrives next weekend. For someone who is trying to decide what equipment to get, the user video and testamonials do a lot.

One of my biggest frustrations during my decision time was a lack of footage showing the equipment doing the tasks I would be doing. The dealers won't let you try out the implements so unless you have a friend or see the equipment being used somewhere, it's kind of hard to know how good it is at a particular task.

I'll let all you folks know when I get my 4310 and start posting some action shots and reports. If I get really ambitious, you'll be able to link to a website w/video.../w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Speaking of videos, I just posted 3 more of the brush hog in action over in the Power Trac forum. Its lots of fun and TBN provides a great place to share it! I like using my web space for gigantic stuff like this.

Looking forward to your posts.

I would pay a buck to upload a video. I would pay $0.50 to download one. (You never know if it will be worth a buck...)

The payment method would have to be hassle free, quick and easy to do though.

The link to a video is a good idea for those with web pages. Most ISP's give you some room for your personal web page as part of the monthly service price.
