Excellent point! Actually, my initial interest was to mow with the mules...a romantic dream of mine, mowing the field behind the trusted mule...well, it only takes once to send you to the tractor dealer with the checkbook in hand!

Thanks for everyone's comments...I think I'm in this for a minimum of $20K, and I'm thinking I can rent a tractor every time I need it (about 10 times per year) for about $1500/year. Might be a better choice...has anyone done this analysis and how should I approach the buy versus rent issue?

oh no...Trudy you sound like my wife...quick everyone do a check to make sure she isn't one of ours Masquerading as a new TBN poster! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Are we clear? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Everyone here knows that cost justification analyses are only done on implements, not on the actual tractor itself! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The weak point in your analysis is that when you have a tractor available you'll find a use for it almost every day. Note that I said ALMOST. I haven't cranked my tractor today and that's unusual.
When you start to spend your money be advised that the cab will probably cost about the same or a little more than a loader. If I had to choose I would rather have the loader. It is without a doubt the best purchase I ever made. I use the tractor more because of having the loader available than for any other requirement. Having said that, I'll also say that I'm thinking of moving up to a cab tractor (with loader).
