Steve the HomeDepot stuff does not state the concentration anywhere on the jug. I was surprised by that. Its the "green", with 90% less fumes than blahblahblah; and it boils zinc off violently.

The HomeDepot stuff will eat your base metal if you don't watch it carefully. Boils off deep pits in 30 minutes. And it already gasses you out pretty bad. This is not like chainsaw bar length, tow capacity or amps, you don't really win with the strongest acid.



In general boiling your part away isn't the goal, but it could be, depends on whats the challenge?

Check it the pool area. I buy boxes of 2gal muritic acid. Every 2-3 weeks or so..

Sodo, that's the stuff I was leary about, thanks for the report - at work, we had pickling tanks that used a mix of Nitric and Hydroflouric and water - seems that most acids have an "optimum dilution point" for most aggressive action. I've had PURE Sulfuric on my hands before, took it nearly 30 seconds to start feeling warm - but when you wash it off, better have 50 gallons immediately or you'll wish you did same thing with straight HCl. (unless you have an un-healed cut on your hand, that is) BTW - if you ever wanted to know why Sulfuric acid used to be called "oil of vitriol", put a little on your finger and rub it around - feels like mineral oil, til it finds some moisture

Next time I'm at the Homeless Despot I'll grab some of the "green" stuff - it's about 2/3 the cost of the stuff I got, and sounds like it'll do better for what I want... Steve
