There have been TBN threads on how to make a straight line between property corners that have a hill between them so you cannot see one point from the other.

Now, just have a quadcopter hover over one high enough that it can be seen and no more problem! Straight line.

I'm facing this issue right now and I think this could be my answer. Put a laser on a tripod, align from one property marker to the quadcopter. How long the quadcopter can stay airborne then doesn't matter, you can use the stationary laser to mark each fence post.

Regular off the shelf units can stay up for about 15minutes. I think the issue would be having a good GPS fix. Even the slightest wind will move these things around just a little and that is a little too much if you are trying to mark out property lines. Also on most of the GPS units they say to give your waypoints at least a 5' circle so the quad will not spend lots of time "hunting" for just that one spot before it goes to the next waypoint.

Larger units can carry larger batteries, these with the camera gear can stay in the air for over 30 minutes....up to an hour with very light loads.

I went to the National Farm Equipment Show in Louisville, KY back in February. There were several vendor booths there displaying UAV's.

I think the issue would be having a good GPS fix.

In many instances that could be an issue. For me I was going to have my brother standing at one property marker and operate the quad so it is directly above him. We'll be on the phone to each other and when he says 'now' then I set the laser direction. No GPS involved.
