municipal oil drop off??

All advance auto parts stores o'rileys, and autozone take used oil.

Here in SC there are county maintained (state funds also) collection sites for people like me in rural areas. These places take various recyclables (according to the contract they have i guess) some wont take glass others do some take alki. batteries, etc just varies. They all take used oil and filters and old auto style batteries (those things have scrap value based on daily metal rates but between 3-5$) Some like when i lived in anderson county would take used gas/oil and gas, now Mccormick county takes old gas also, some will take coolant but not as many. These sites also will take up to 4 tires per customer per day and your home construction debris at 1 truckload/day. They say 5 gallons per person/day but nobody counts but i usually only bring several gallons at a time and now just fill up a 5 gallon bucket before i go. You could dump 10 gallons no problem but i dont think you would get away with a whole truck load of buckets.

They have the dame slow drain problem as the sump will only hold about 2.5 gallons, i think they get plugged with debris?

was there a vent cap that you had to loosen? it may have been trying to vent thru the inlet if the vent was closed or blocked up ( mud dauber.. etc. )..

That's not an ideal setup trying to pour from a 10g sump .. IMHO.. I think I would have made it a tad easier and at least xfered it into 2 5g pails that you likely had to buy to get the 10g of oil replaced...

Soundguy..the problem was - the count had such a small opening to pour into even if I had 5 gal cans - I would have been there pouring fir at least an hour but 5 gal cans would have been better and no there was no vent cap..my container was wide open - it was a 3 ft L by 2&1/2 ft. W by 8 inch deep plastic container and was wide open on the top ..Next time I will try and find another place to drop the oil off and I will take it in the 5 gal containers the new oil came in.

I meant vent cap on the container you were pouring in TO not from.. makes a difference.
