Mushroom season

I absolutely love those mushrooms. My dad always called them cauliflower mushrooms. He would wash and slice them, then put them in mason jars with oil and a number of spices (very long process).. Let them sit for about 6 months or so and them, WOW. The best tasting mushrooms you will ever find.

Unfortunately my dad passed away 2 months ago, so this year I will have to try and find them myself. Tough to remember all the spot. I like the GPS idea, wish I would have thought of that when my dad was still around. Even if I do find them, I'm sure they will never taste quite as good.

OK I didn't know you could eat them, I've got a yard full of oaks and have been just kicking them. I've also seen them in customers treed yards this year. That is where I've seen them at the base of oaks.

I am not a big fan of mushrooms to begin with, but will have to give them more respect, see if I can harvest some, if it's not to late. Been seeing them for 2 weeks already. Must be a bumper year for them around here cause I don't remember seeing them in such quantity in past years.

JB.

Bread Basket likes to stand in the middle of the circle of mushrooms.

This is old thread but I think it wouldn't hurt to restart it. We had below average morel season. Found only about 100 white morels. But oyster mushrooms are prolific this year. We have several dead trees with oyster mushrooms on them. One has the classic (white) oyster and two have golden oyster. Since there are so many I am drying them for after season use.

Clasic oyster mushroom. The mushroom on the top is Dyer's saddle. It is also edible. We tried to eat it but it was not our favorite so we stopped, since there are better choices, picking it.

Its been so very dry this year in Ea WA that the few mushrooms we may get are simply dust this year. I've not seen that type in this neck of the woods. We will get shaggy mane, puff ball & morels if its a damp spring.

I have a LOT of the dryers & read up most people say only eat the outer 2/3's of it. I cut some last season but never got a chance to use them. Have a lot all the time of them on my place one of the few.

I only found 4 morels this year but didn't get out last year so ...

Took this shot with my cellphone of a mushroom on our property. Anyone know what it is?

We found about 3 pounds of morels on our property this year, but we only looked in part that is cutover. Since this is our first year here and we didn't look over the whole property (89 acres), I have no idea if that is good or bad.

Extremely bad year for Morels around my parts. We usually find 125 or more, and this year we might have found 30 total.
