The recent summer rains we have gotten has really made the mushrooms come up in my yard. My wife and I have been picking and eating alot.

Its amazing how fast they grow. We picked the yard clean last night and you can see how big some of them grew in 24hrs. Around here we call these "Meadow Mushrooms". I attached some pictures of the ones we picked tonight.

Eating wild mushrooms is like playing Russian Roulette. What I see in the picture does look like Agaracus bispora, the common mushroom you buy in the grocery store, but it possibly may not be. Wild mushrooms can cause permenant brain damage worse than LSD, and can also be easily fatal. Only someone with enough training in mycology to be absolutely certain of the species of any mushroom should consider consuming them. You may have this training; I don't know. If you don't, PLEASE proceed with extreme caution. Let an expert verify the species as a safe one.

I'm having more of them in my yard than usual, too. But I just let the lawnmower chop them up since I don't know nearly enough about them to know which are edible and which are not. I like mushrooms, but only eat those from the grocery store or restaurant.

I am no expert in mycology but there are about 4 different spiecies of wild mushrooms that my family has picked for years and years.

It sounds like you are eating safe ones. Still a person should never eat a mushroom he/she is unfamiliar with. This is extremely dangerous.

I couldn't enjoy eating wild mushrooms because I would be too focused on imagining the first symptoms of neurological impairment. For me that lesson on why you should leave them alone was driven home when I paged through a mushroom identification guide written in French. I couldn't understand the text, but next the the photographs were symbols that even I could figure out. One was the skull & crossbones, the other were a knife & fork. They were next to different mushrooms that looked the same to me. So delicious or deadly? I couldn't enjoy the taste because I am not that brave. Be safe.

Maybe this post should be in the Safety section as well as the Rural Living one.

Bird's got it right, ".....I like mushrooms, but only eat those from the grocery store or restaurant....."
I do the same!

It is very easy to pick up the edible mushroom. Just flip it - edibles have little round spore holes. Mushrooming is very common in middle and eastern Europe and mushrooms with eggs or fried schnitzel style taste great.

There's no hard and fast rules for mushrooms, at least for the ones that grow in the US. My dad has been picking and eating wild mushrooms since dirt was invented, but he still tosses anything that doesn't look exactly like what he knows is safe.
