On the MX5200 & 5800, one dealer (salesman) told me that there are 4 settings for widths & another told me the R4s aren't adjustable widths. Which is correct? If adjustable, what setting would you recommend for 50% use on a semi-steep mountain property & 50% use on a semi-flat farmland property. Another ? - one dealer said they fill w/ rim guard/beet juice & another said methanol & water. Which of those is better or are is it 6 of one / a half-dozen of another?

We have a MX5800 with R4 tires. The wheels are adjustable for four settings, and we set them all the way out for stability. I would suggest that you do so also. Our rear tires are a little over 78" wide outside to outside at the treads. One note about this is that lots of equipment trailers are 78" wide between the fenders, so that might be a consideration for you. Our rears are filled with water and antifreeze. I do not have any experience with the other choices but I have seen lots of threads here on TBN about both.

Thanks rbtjr. You don't have any front & rear pics of the 5800s stance by any chance do you? That's a good point about trailer width...

No, I don't think I have any pics showing the MX5800 straight on from the front and the back. I might have an opportunity to get some tomorrow. If I do, I'll send them to you by PM.

It seems certain you will order a loader with your tractor.

As a newbie with a tractor-loader, operating on semi-steep mountain property, you want the rear wheels set to max spread for stability. Tractors can maim or kill you in two seconds. As a newbie you will not be sensitized to hints of impending rollover nor conditioned to ground the FEL instantly.

Rim Guard is the most dense choice, hence Rim Guard will add the most stability. Rim Guard is the most expensive option. I suggest you google "Tractor Rim Guard".

There was no question about it - for me. I have my rears set at the widest setting and filled with RimGuard. RimGuard is the heaviest product and also the most expensive.

BTW - my rear tires have eight possible width settings(centers dished in or out and offset rims set in one of four positions - narrow inside the center, wide inside the center - narrow outside the center, wide outside the center). Glad I chose the widest when I bought the tractor - no way in God's green earth that I could manhandle the rears now that they are filled. I would estimate the rear tires weigh 1050+ pounds each - 755# of RimGuard plus the weight of the rim and tire.

Yes am def. getting the LA1065 loader w/ the MX5800. So I'll have the rears filled & set to either the furthest width spacing or the next one in. How much difference (in inches) is the variance between the adjustable width settings? Need to double check trailer widths like rbtjr mentioned.

On my tractor - each adjustment is around 4" either wider or narrower. From my OP manual - - 55.9" - 59.8" - 63.8" - 67.7". These measurements are center of tire to center of tire. Mine is set at 67.7" resulting in 80" outside of tire to outside of tire.

About the width between the fenders on a trailer, when we had our M5700, with its rear wheels set to the maximum width, we had the problem of the tires being too wide to fit between the inside of the fenders. We solved the problem by having the fenders removed. Not an ideal solution but we very seldom trailered the M5700. Then when we got our L3800 with R4 tires and a new trailer, the width of its rear wheels could not be adjusted (could be on models with R1 tires, not on ours with R4s). We put 4" spacers on each rear wheel and the L3800 still fit fine on the trailer between the inside of the fenders. Then unfortunately that new trailer was stolen with only about 300 miles on it. We haven't replaced it yet but if and when we do, we will buy a trailer with 82" between the fenders so our MX5800 with the rear wheels set as wide as possible will fit between the fenders, although just barely.
