MX5100 fuel usage

I'm new to owning a tractor and just bought a new mx5100. Most of the tractor usage has been using a tiller or a 6ft brush hog. We have 10 hrs on it and have used over 20 gal of fuel, Does this make sense?

Yes it does. That's some hard work with the engine tach'd out pretty good.

I generally average 2 gal per hour bushogging and about 1 gal per hour for loader work.

Yep, mine sucks down more hogging and tilling than loader work also. 2 gal/hr is a normal amount

Agreed, I use about a gallon per hour for loader work which includes some idling.

I was brush hogging last week for 5hrs and used 7gal running in MED at 540pto

Not to take away from the original question but have you guys noticed if your guage is reading correctly? I think mine is about a 1/4 off

Mine's off by about that much too. When the gauge indicates that I have somewhat less than a half tank remaining (40% remaining?), it only takes 5 gallons to fill it.

BTW, I love this tractor.

And further off course-- Some folks have characterized the MX5100 as "fuel hog". Seems to me that I can get a heck of a lot done on 5 gallons, which is less than $20. What do you think?

I don't care about it too much now that I know about the error, but yes, when you consider the amount of engineering that went into the engine, transmission, or even the loader geometry, you'd think they could get the fuel gauge to read correctly.
