If prices were not included who would pick a mx5100 over a Grand L 5x40?
and why

The only reason other than price would be simplicity. The MX5100 doesn't have all the electronic wizardry that the GL series tractors have.

I really dont think anyone would. On paper, the upper 3 Grands (L5040,5240,and 5740) actually weight a tad more, and have a tad more lift capacities front and rear.

............3PH lift...............loader lift............weight
MX.......2310.....................2443..................3620
GL........2976.....................2489...................3803-3902

Even the next 2 smaller grand l's 424040-4740 are right there

...........2756.....................2489...................3527-3751

So if prices werent included, the GL hasit over the mx. Plus the loads of features on the GL's.

But the MX is just more of a plain jane rugged no-frills workhorse and is most likely a good bit cheaper.

i for 1 would pick the MX or the GL because of the electronics.if the elctronics go out on the GLs you have major probs an costly shop time.an no 1 needs that.

I have the GL5040....just over 100 hours on it. So far a excellent tractor to say the least! I too am dubious about the electronics. However they are nice while they are working, I can just push a button and it shows me the RPM on my bushhog while I'm mowing. Very nice feature to keep you from lugging your engine too much. Speedometer is not needed but its fun to know the speed your mowing at down to the tenth of a mile per hour. Even if they all blinked out the tractor would still work but I do wish the temp guage was analog. If it goes out it would be a pain to keep a close eye on the grill to know when to clean it out of the chuff that clogs it. As it is my tractor runs with 4 dots out of the 8 on the temp. Soon as it bumps up to 5 dots I know its time to clean the screens. There are huge ammounts of electronics on the big rowcrop tractors and they seem to last and work fine so my fingers are crossed here. Does the MX5100 have the extendable links? They are worth their weight in gold........I do wish my L5040 had a economy setting on the PTO where I could run it at lower RPMs, say 1800 and turn a mower at 540 for light clipping of fields.

Exactly, crawl up into the cab of a big row crop tractor or combine and look at all of the stuff they have. If they were not reliable, no one would be buying them.

I well remember my dad's consternation when upon buying a new car there was no way to hand crank it too; bout the way I felt when they stopped putting kick starters on motorcycles.
