Hey guys. I just recently purchased a new JD 4320 tractor. It's time to purchase a rotary cutter for it and I had almost decided on the MX6, but the the salesmen I spoke to at two different stores seemed to steer me away from it saying it was too much cutter for the tractor. I know on the website it lists the MX6 as a possible attachment. I was just wondering if any of you have this cutter with a tractor of this size and your opinions. Any help or information you have is appreciated. Thanks.

I have an old, unknown brand 6' cutter that I use with my 4320. I use it in the pastures. It works fine; although I did manage to slow the tractor down, climbing a 20 degree slope, cutting very thick ryegrass. The saleman at my dealer was eager to sell me either the MX6 or LX6 so I'm thinking that under reasonably average conditions you should have no problem.

I guess I was just a little discouraged after the salesmen both seemed to think the MX was too heavy for the tractor. At least that's the impression I got. I only need the cutter about three or four times a year, but I thought I would just step up to the MX in order to be able to cut thicker brush if I ever need to do so. Your salesman seemed to think the MX would be fine though?

Yes, he did. For occasional use though, why spend big bucks for the MX6? My dealer told me $2300 for MX6 and $1500 for LX6. Shortline brands are a lot less.

My dealer was actually selling the MX6 for $1975.00 and the LX6 for $1455.00
I just wanted to have a cutter that would handle almost anything I might ever want to cut, but not unreasonable for my tractor to handle.

A 4320 will handle an MX6 just fine. Power is not an issue. If you don't have a loader on the front end you will need front weights. These aren't cheap so factor the cost into your decision. Your dealer should be able to advise you on the number of weights required. John Deere publishes this information I think in their sales manual and I would think it is also in the MX6 operator's manual.

Peddler,

I am pulling a 6ft rotary cutter with a 4400 that has less than 30hp at the PTO. It usually will cut as fast as I want to travel through the tall stuff. So, that indicates to me that you have more than enough power to pull the MX6. The only issue is the weight of the MX on the back of your machine. The MX appears to be an excellent machine and I wish my tractor would handle one. If I was in your shoes I would buy the MX without hesitation, as long as I could mow without a loader on the front.

That price on a MX-6 is very good. You should check the configuration to make sure all the "standard" features are included. I had that happen to me - the price was really good, but if I wanted rear chains - that was extra...

I run a MX6 on my 4720 and it is awesome. Your 4320 should do fine.

I ordered an LX knowing full well that I really wanted an MX - but the 4310 isn't rated for it. Well, My dealer said I was stooopid and ordered an MX for me. My 4310 is just on the edge with the MX, but we do fine with it.

A 4320 would be perfect pulling an MX. (maybe the salesman have been burned selling them, because they are so spendy...)

I know there are many happy LX owners. But I rarely advise buying it. The sidewalls are too thin in my estimation. Swing wide once and smack a fence post and they will likely crumple. Taping 5 $100 bills onto one won't make it an MX which also has a far superior gearbox, stump jumper, top, and frame.

I feel that the Deere cutters perform better than most. The cutting chamber is engineered for fast clean cutting. Some brands will have real engineering, but not many to the level of Deere's.

As DDivina points out, the standard features can be deleted by the dealer. So one or both sets of chains might not be in the price. In the LX the slipclutch can also be deleted. Don't assume they do this stuff to be 'crooked' there are several reasons why they can come this way. Price is just to most common.

I'm a proponent for buying more than you need - and if the MX6 works for your 4320 (rating), then go for it. I have one for my 4600 and it really rocks!
