My 2014 Spring Garden

I went out this AM, great intentions, dug down 1 foot, then I hit solid frozen dirt. Haha, I got to place on 1/2 length of culvert and that was with some swearing. I had to get across the swamp some how. I forgot what this was all about, and what a learning curve it is. That's what 25 years in Florida does to a Mainer.

Ok Here is the beginning for now: best I can do as the snow drifts are melting as I write. <img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=368481"/>
I have never tried starting seeds inside or a green house before. Honestly, I've never had interest in it come to think about it.

Well I didn't get the garden planted today like I planned!! Got it all rowed up and 3 rows opened with the middle buster then got a call to go operate a dozer. I worked longer than I thought and didn't have time to plant. Looks like I'm not gonna beat the rain either. If we don't get much rain tonight I'll plant in the morning if I don't get a dozer call again.. I thought for sure I'd beat the rain for the weekend.

On a positive note, this evening I got to see 2,, YES TWO!! potato sprouts barely popping up out the dirt!! I was so excited about the new birth of 2014!!
Will get pics tomorrow if the weather allows me. That rain sure is gonna help the rest of the sprouts pop up from under the crust.

Well we got a huge amount of rain yesterday and it's raining as I type this. A lot more coming this evening, tonight, and tomorrow and we are even under a tornado watch right now. I still haven't got anything planted besides the potatoes. But I do have it all rowed up. But I'm probly gonna have to re-till all the rows and row it up again after all this rain is over with... Although I haven't got to plant anything else just yet, Here are some new potato sprouts! Makes me VERY excited to see!!!

Nice looking garden, I'm still indoors, , but my land is hilly and under snow at this point. What kind of potatoes do you grow?

I'd love to be up there in that snow for a while.

I only plant Irish Potatoes and Red LaSoda is the variety.

I want to plant Kennebecs and yukon golds. Been too many years for me to recall what my father planted. The coop ext service tells me those are good choices, but there is always a learning curve. I plan on putting maybe 75 pounds of seed, maybe yielding 400 pounds, but I am not certain of those numbers.

I planted a row about 100-105 feet long and it took right at 14 pounds of seed potatoes.

I was so excited about the new birth of 2014!!

Looking Good! Always great to see that first sprout. I grew up on a cattle farm where we needed rain for some things and needed it not to rain for others. Hang in there.

Thank You for the kind words.

Me and another person I've known for a long time, who is many years older than me, we're looking at the garden the other day. He just stopped by to see it. That's when I noticed the 1st 2 potato vines coming up out of the dirt. Made me extremely happy and excited.
