I have an area of woods at the end of my yard the wife likes to garden in but it can get pretty muddy at times so I am putting in a decorative gravel path for her. I dug it out to about 10" depth and put down 9 tons of crushed stone. On top of that I'm using interlocking edging brick and 9 ton of trap rock. Good project to work the muscles after loafing all winter.

Boy, I'm really glad my wife doesn't visit TBN! That is a great looking path. What did you use to dig the 10"? Any ideas for making it easier if you would do it again?

Thanks for posting.

Wow, fine job. Looks like a lot of work, but I'll bet it will be worth it. Should hold up for many years with minimal maintenance. Did you dig that with loader, box blade or what?

Great looking project!!!

I'm sure she'll be happy with it for many years to come. I really like the way it works its way through the trees. Very nice.

Often one project leads to another, so with dirt I dug out for the path, I created another entrance to my property.

How long and how wide is the path?]

The state won't allow me to have 2 entrances to my property so i just added 110 feet to my already 40 foot wide drive way.
I still only have 1 entrance but now it's 150 feet wide and I'm still limited to just one driveway.

Is the road in front of your place a state or county road?
Did you have to get a permit to install the second culvert?
I had to get a permit for the 110 foot entension .

The path is about 160' long and 5' wide.

The road in front of the house is actually a city street and they did not require a permit. They specified the culvert diameter, and that it had to be 65' from my existing drive and 5' from the property line.

It's interesting how different places across the country have different rules/regulations.

*You must have taken about 24 tons of dirt out of there.
What did you do with the dirt left over after installing the culvert?

Here are some pics after finishing. I also put in a little fire pit where we burn sticks and stuff.

and since I knew someone would ask about the stairs in the pic, they just go to a lower level of the ravine where grandkids love to play!

alot of the leftover dirt when over the embankment behind the path to build up the ground there.

Great job on a great project. It is nice to see examples of what can be done with these small tractors. A much larger tractor wouldn't have done any better, and would have had problems in that tight area.
