Recheck your battery cables, and sand, scrape or spray corrosion prevention stuff on them.

On the subject of Dixie Choppers, it sounds like you cranked it until it had a lot of fuel in the system, and when it ignited, you could expect something like that. I own 2, 60 in Choppers, and 2, 42 in Choppers. Those Kohler engines are some of the best. Check gas tank for water, and take the carburator bowl off, and check for water.

I forgot to mention the replacement switch i got was replacement Oregon 33-399. Replacement for Scag #48798 and Briggs #493625. I believe this will work on both a 422 and 425 w/robin engine.

Hey Funpilot, I don't think we've met. I have a 425 down at the beach at Sandbridge. Glad to see you're running again, ... and glad to see another 425 owner close by.

Fun Pilot - Try turning on the lights, key on, engine stopped. Then have someone watch the lights while you wiggle cables, connectors, fuses, and the wires going between the front and back half of the machine. The lights are very sensitive to small changes in voltage. They make a good multimeter. You can also pull the front cover on the operator pedestal and wiggle the wires on the key switch and other areas. Could be a loose wire on the key switch.

I kinda wonder what would happen if one passed alot of current thru part of the ignition switch, like say when replacing a battery, and causing things to heat up and melt so that not line up quite make good contact.

You could easily burn up an ignition switch with too much current, especially if you put something that draws a lot of current, like two or three 55 watt halogen lights . If you do run lights, use the relays, and hook them to the accessory position.

BobRip, Haven't had much seat time with the cold weather. (been inside the shop workin' some wood!) Now with spring here I hope to have more to talk about. I just ordered an Earthway electric fertilizer (broadcast) spreader. ... designed for an ATV. ... hopefully easy to adapt to a PT. ... This unit was approx one-fourth the cost of PT's hydraulic spreader. I'll let you know how it works out.

I will be needing a new spreader soon, so that is of interest also.

Hey JD...very nice to see an owner nearby. I have not used my machine since I last posted so do not know what issues still remain. JD, do you do your own maintenance? I had mine done by a local shop and presuming they did not create these problems, they seemed fine.
