My 4310 went in for its hydro work today. The dealer called this week to get the work done as soon as possible. I first read about the recall here but did not check my serial numbers. I don't use the tractor much in the Minnesota cold.

I asked about the replacement part and was assured they would use brand new parts. The dealer was very anxious to have the tractor back. I was anxious about recon parts because my little green tractor only has 26 (light use) hours on it. Nice to know that is not an issue.

BTW, I have had my tractor since July and now the salesman is asking me if I want to pay for it. Well, sure, I would be happy to pay for it. And the FEL, box, quick hitch, rotary cutter too. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Are they usually so slow in requiring payment?

Do I interpret your post as stating you have had your JD since last July and you have not made any payments?
The rest of us should be so fortunate, I put 10% cash down and started making payments two months later although the tractor itself was not delivered until four months after my downpayment, I had asked them to hold off until spring as I didn't have room to hide it from my spouse during the winter.

If they tell you the replacement hydro will be new I would want to get that in writing and it should also specify that new fluid be used when it is refilled. There have been several posts made where TBN members were concerned about the use of "remanufactured" hydros and the original fluid being put back in their tractors.

Or perhaps your 4310 is getting special treatment because the dealership still considers it "theirs"....?

Correct. My dealer delivered the tractor and never sent an invoice or required payment. A month later I bought the MX5 and again - no payment required. I have not pushed the matter with them.

I think I frustrated the salesman with my knowledge about what I wanted and didn't just accept whatever he said. Frankly, after reading this board, I MAY have known more about the 4310 than the salesman himself.

I had a 1969 Ford 2000 without a FEL before my 4310. I LOVE having a FEL and really love the 4310 for ease of care and maintenance. The longer I have the 4310, the more I find to use it for. The old Ford is a great tractor but needed someone more mechanically inclined than me.

I use the tractor to mow pastures, level an arena, move manure and move small hay bales from storage to the barn. I want to configure some forks on the bucket to move more bales of hay at a time. I have looked at commercial forks but they are overkill. I want to use 2X4s and clamps to create a platform to carry grass hay with the bucket. I used to move hay by hand with carts or a sled, so using the tractor to do this work is very sweet.

I am sure that there are probably more than a few guys here that would love for you be their tractor-purchasing agent. And if they never had to pay for them your cut would be much larger. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Well said !! I hope she keeps the TBN members informed on what happens with her recall work. From what I have been reading there are some rather unhappy 4000-Ten owners and I am glad my 4210 is not affected by the recall-especially as I just performed the 50 hour service routine about 11 hours ago.

It took my dealer 3 months to invoice me for the 4 in 1 loader. No explanation, just an invoice that arrived in the mail, at the wrong address, three months after delivery. Must be nice to not have to worry about payments for that long. Hmmmmmm.......

Recalling the old farmhands of many years ago I would suggest going with 2x6 of fir if possible.

Lady horse Farmer ,I had my 4310 done on monday and had it back on wed. of this week , I had posted the thread on the recall last week and had concerns over re use of the fluid and remanned parts.
The fluid is re used ,I was due for my 50 hr service so I agreed to pay for new fluid and filters but was concerned about a re breakin period since the hydro sytem was opened when they split the tractor to replace the hydro unit. I called j.d. and they said they would not cover it , + my dealer contacted them and he told me they said it was not needed at 100 hrs . I talked to a j.d. tech at another dealer and he said if it was his he would change it at 100 so I will do that also.
I had also asked the dealer about my guages fogging and the service dept told me it wasn`t covered ,they said fog was not a defect . I asked j.d. and they said the same thing ,I told j.d. I was not happy with this outcome and they said they would turn it over to a supervisor and call me back that day ,they didn`t call so the next day I called the owner of the dealership and he said he could not belive they would not cover that and he would talk to his service dept. ,got a call right back from the service manager asking why I didn`t say anything while the tractor was there and he would fix it ???? my tractor had just been delivered to my house!! I had talked to his service wtiter when I called and not him . seemed a little weird that they wouldn`t cover it ,deere said no also and now he says NO PROBLEM . Anyways he had the parts in stock and I get to do it myself since the tractor was allready back at my house.
The dealer also ripped up my bill for the fluid and filters and he paid for this ,this way I can pay at 100 and I am very happy about this but I don`t think the dealer should have covered it. I kinda get the feeling he is covering the dash also .
Final score is the dealer wins hands down and j.d. looses . I really like this tractor ,how its built and handles but I don`t like to fight for service or do I think you should have to , I paid a lot of money for the 4310 ,was inconvinanced by the recall , spent a lot of time on the phone and just wanted the dash fixed and new fluid .

My suspisions were correct when I went to look at the tractor in the shop ,the fluid was sitting in 5 gal. buckes ,uncovered on the floor for 2 days ,who knows what can get in it .

as far as new vs. remanned ,I asked and he said he couldn`t tell if it was new or not but said they are shipping them right back to deere to rebuid ,I kinda figure I got remanned .

lady horse farme, have you checked out the clamp on steel forks that clamp on your bucket? I have seen these for a couple hundred bucks at tractor shows ,should work for what you want .

Reman parts sometimes are just reworked parts too tho. Alot of times if intial installation is proven a faulty part at build they will rebuild the part and fix the prob. and use for service parts or reman parts.
