Good day....

My current rear tires are 16.9x24
They have worn the paint off the rear backhoe outriggers/stabilizers (or whatever they're actually called).

I know the tires are pretty worn, and of course... one, is cracking.

If I buy new, in the same size I'm afraid they'll be even closer or more prone to contact the stabilizer.

Should I be looking at a little bit smaller (in diameter) tire? Since when new, it'll have more tread and therefore be a bigger issue.

... I might buy used also, so any help would be greatly appreciated. No need to put 'brand new' on Ol'Betsy when it's only used in dirt on my property.

Would the 14.9-24 be too small (too skinny)?
I have a lead on them, $250 each for used in really good shape. Better shape (deeper tread) then the 16.9-24.

HELP! ;)

It looks like it came with 14.9-24 when new.......

Both of my 68 580-ck's have 14.9 on them. You do not want 16.9 on them for any reason!--not good on tractor!

Thanks ALL!!!
I never thought to look at the specs. DOH!

Why's that?
... they've been on there since I owned it.

Curious more than anything.

Time to make contact with the used seller with the 14.9-24s!!!

I have had very good luck with Goodyear radials ..mind you size was 18.4 x 38, tad bigger ..
but very smooth under transport [rear duals] and better cleaning in the mud compared to Firestone bias ply

Who ever put them on there had no respect for the tractor! Oversized tires on anything will put undue strain on the entire machine. ---Its like these **** kids with their big fat tires on their pickups---next thing transmission goes out---well duuuh!--what do they expect! ---same goes for tractors. Hard on clutches, transmissions, engines, axles. ---Its your tractor so put whatever you like on it.

^ Not to mention you lose power/torque with larger tires. All that can be made up with a re-gear on a normal vehicle, not so easy on a tractor.
