My Bridge Project................

Here is the bridge project across a small creek that I finished several years ago. The little wooden bridge we built 20 years ago was too narrow to get my trailer across. Tires on both sides would be half way on and half way off.

Before we tore out the old bridge we carried the 30 foot beams across the creek with the backhoe. I purchased three used 20 footers from an over head crane company. We cut one piece in half and welded the pieces to the 20 foot lengths to make two 30 foot spans.

Railroad trusses about to be removed. My brother shown in this picture did the engineering calculations on the project.

Steel bridge supports in place. We used the backhoe on one side of the creek and the IH2444 with boom pole on the other side to get them in position.

Cross bracing is welded in place.

Steel grate decking being welded in place. Not show is the heavy angle that runs down the edges of the grating with bracing down to the beams.

Bridge is complete. I can now drive my trailer across it.
