Thanks for the advice everyone!

The Saga Continues: We went out to Home Depot today to get the needed supplies. I want to the lumber department and looked around first for 5/4x8 pressure-treated lumber. I could not find any (only 5/4x6), so I ask a lady if she knows if they have any. Her answer was: "I have no idea"...:confused2: So she calls someone from the building materials department. After he finally arrives and tells me that they do not have 5/4x8's, I told him I want two 2x8x16's cut into 4' pieces. I needed to get a flatbed cart, so I go outside and get it. Once I arrive back at the building department, he tells me that he is using four 8' pieces instead of two 16' pieces since the 8' ones are more straight then the 16' pieces, but he will charge me the 16' price. I noticed that they seemed wider then I thought, but I did not think anything of it. So, I get all the other parts I need, (20-bolts, 20- nuts, 40-washers, 2-toolboxes w/hardware to mount them, and 4-eyebolts). I then get to the check out, and the wood comes up as 2x12's... So we find the guy who cut them and he says that he cut 2x12's, but he would rip them for free. So as he is ripping the last piece it gets stuck; it was too wet...:confused2: He ended up getting another 2x8 and cutting that. After all this, I ended up with 1-2"x8"x4' and 8-2"x4"x4' pressure-treated pieces for free...:dance1: So, all totaled it cost about $90...:(

This past summer I did a couple of carpentry projects around here and I made several trips to the lumber yard. The last trip was for about $50. All the other trips were over a $100.

Adds up quick, don't it.??

Sounds like you'll have a nice unit.

Enjoy the work.

CTF,

Thanks for sharing about the carryall and getting back to me with the 14 1/2" lift on the carryall. I now will build it out very similar to the tips the forum gave.

My saga: I went back to TSC to place an order (after being told by a TSC guy you get thosse on line only, but online says in store only) and found they had one in the yard tagged at $99.00. Their website had them for $119 and that is what it rang up for, but the guy said 99 is 99 and he changed the price to $99. I was in my Prius so it wasn't going to fit, but I was planning to meet my wife at the grocery store one town over and then gas her SUV up. I took her SUV back to TSC, but it would not fit either. I had to borrow a truck from a guy at work. It is 70 miles roundtrip to work and 40 miles round trip to TSC. I put in 50 dollars of gas and it is only at 1/2 and I still need to drive it back tomorrow (another two gallons). They now had two additonal carryalls in the yard next to mine.

Of course, I can't mount it yet because I have to take off the Herd sander presently on the 3PH. To do that I need to buy another dolly at Harbor Freight. All of my other dollies (5) have the backhoe and front loader on them. I will interchange the carryall and sander as needed during the winter. The carryall is for weight when plowing and moving the trash bin every week as well as wood. (I need to figure out what is cheap weight to put on the carry all).

Anyway, thanks again for starting this trail and everyone else who contributed suggestions. It has all helped me out a lot, too.

Chris

Your welcome! Glad to be of help! Sounds like you had a similar experience as me. I'm also using it for weight in the winter and taking down the trash.

This is why we told you to get bolts by the lb at either TSC or a hardware store or somewhere that sells them by the Lb. You would only need grade 2 bolts for that and i think grd2' s are like $3-4lb at TSC ( i know its a haul to your tsc but a local hardware store should be similar). Lowes when i buy a decent bolt is alway like $.70-1.30 each!!! I buy most of my bolts at my local carquest about 8 miles down the raod from my house as he sells by the lb and will also just sell me a couple bolts if that s all i need and will charge me .10-.50 each depending on size and or grade, well grade 8 is $1 or 2 each.

I think you should have bought it online, may have been cheaper to ship it. How do yall folks make it without a truck or trailer? What do you buy stuff in. I mean i have a daily driver saturn i use to save on fuel but i also have 2 other trucks for various activities and to haul garbage get lumber get large store items, get furnature, appliances and tractor toys! The big K10 is the boat, tractor and firewood hauler, the ranger serves as a cheap way to get supplies that i dont need big brown for or if i want to hunt and dont need 4wd.
